Is daycare tonsillectomy a safe outpatient surgery at Pokhara ENT Center, Nepal

Introduction: Tonsillectomy is one of the most common surgical procedure in world performed by Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon. Over past decade, there has been progress techniques for tonsillectomy, yet pain bleeding after tonsillectomy remain important complications. With increasing need to reduce healthcare costs developing countries, currently a trend towards performing on daycare basis this study aims at evaluating how efficacious it may be our setting. Methods: A retrospective review all surgeries Pokhara ENT Center, Pokhara, Nepal from February 2018 January 2019. Patients aged 15 years up either sex who met paradise criteria were included while patients same but had contraindication surgery excluded. Demographic information as well complications within six hours before discharge follow-up seventh post-operative day evaluated, any emergency room visits first 24 requiring visit facility. Results: On 17% worst 75% no pain, only 2% presented with primary hemorrhage 3% secondary hemorrhage. None them required revision surgery. Conclusions: Daycare being done some centers owing risk postoperative country. In study, number was lower not life-threatening. It can considered safe cost-effective method, though patient selection crucial.
